The Call for Presentations for our 2023 OCP Global Summit Engineering Workshops is now OPEN!

The Open Compute Project (OCP) is about making Community led hyperscale innovations available to all. At the core of the OCP is its community of hyperscale data center operators, joined by telecom and colocation providers and enterprise IT users, working with vendors to develop open innovations that when embedded in products are deployed from the cloud to the edge.

The OCP Global Summit will take place over three days from October 17-19, 2023. The Summit is intended to showcase (1)  the work of the OCP Community that takes place in OCP Projects, highlight impact of OCP Projects in the market through deployments of OCP recognized equipment, (2) influence of OCP community through adoption of standardizations developed within the OCP Community, (3) and put a spotlight on new innovations that can significantly impact the market in the next several years.

Please note: the 2023 OCP Global Summit is an in-person event only. Live streaming or remote presentation is not supported for this event.

The Summit will be packed with Keynotes, Exhibits, Expo Hall Talks, an interactive OCP Experience Center, Special Focus Tracks and Engineering Workshops that will not be your typical lecture presentations. The Engineering Workshops specifically showcase work done in OCP Projects and will be technical deep dives to allow for collaboration and intense discussions on current OCP Project activities and new products! Special tracks are often curated by the OCP Foundation and  feature work from adjacent communities or new innovations that are relevant to the OCP Community.

This is your opportunity to shine and present your know-how leadership and expertise.  Please submit a proposal for a presentation today.

Update to OCP Community Calendar Procedures

Kevin Kifer

Afternoon,

This is notification to the community that on Thursday, March 23rd, OCP will be changing the methods that project calls are scheduled and communicated by leveraging the existing Groups.io platform. Project Leads have been alerted, and OCP staff is completing the necessary steps to return the power of scheduling events to the community.

This will be a slight upheaval but we believe in the long-term that these policies will further simplify the process of holding calls / meetings / events and increase community engagement and participation.

What will happen on Thursday:
  • All Google Calendar project / subproject / workstream calendar events will be cancelled.
  • Prior to the cancellations I will send an email through each Groups.io reflector to alert that the cancellations are coming.
    • Individuals may need to manually remove items from Outlook and other stand-alone calendar software.
  • Replacement events will be configured on the individual project / subproject / workstream groups.io calendar. Those subscribed to the groups.io channel where the new cadence is scheduled will receive an updated calendar event to be accepted / declined.

OCP Community Calendar Procedures documentation:

You are welcome to reach out to me directly if you have questions. I will also be holding my bi-weekly, open-door GoTo call on Thursday afternoon from 4-5PM Eastern.

Thank you,

OCP Regional Summit
OCP Regional Summit
In the spirit of Empowering Open, this year the Open Compute Project (OCP) Foundation took big steps to evolve OCP regional summits. Our goals are to more effectively incorporate our new sustainability tenet across all of our projects, to deliver a world class conference experience in an environment where our community was facing economic headwinds, deliver amazing and unique engineering workshops with a focus not only on hyperscale innovations but deployment experiences and policy and innovation from our EMEA Community. The OCP Community responded energetically with excellent innovation, data and experiences to share. For example, while travel budgets are tight this year across the Community, we still received >30% more presentation proposals than our last Regional Summit. Every minute of this year's Regional Summit will be packed with opportunities to get involved and/or learn about new technologies, developments and experiences in deployment.

Prague's keynote line up is going to be thought-provoking and full of surprises.

2023 Regional Summit Schedule:

Deployments Track
Which companies are adopting and deploying OCP solutions in Europe? How are they using these solutions and what benefits are they seeing? The Deployments Track will showcase a group of companies from a wide range of industries sharing their experience including telecoms, service providers and facility operators. End users and OCP Solution Providers will provide detailed insight into the benefits when deploying OCP recognized infrastructure.

View the Deployments Track Schedule:

IT Ecosystems: Server & Storage Track
The need for more performance from computational infrastructure continues to accelerate with workloads becoming more demanding and diverse, and needing to operate on large data sets. The OCP community led by hyperscale data center operators are making important advancements on how we design servers bringing in levels of disaggregation, or modularity, that impacts designs at all levels including the server, interconnects and within the silicon itself. This allows for better matching the computational infrastructure with the demands of the application pushing an important new dimension in which the OCP is investing, hardware - software co-design. In addition the modularity in design allows for re-use of components and diversity of supply chain which will continue to be an imperative moving forward. This track will cover some of the latest innovations in modular servers, movement of data between tiers of memory enabled by CXL, IT equipment ready for liquid cooling, and storage systems.

View the Server / Storage Track Schedule:

Facility Track
The Facility Track will focus on the ever expanding requirements of the Data Center physical infrastructure. As OCP increases its focus on sustainability and modularity, the community continues to adapt to the needs and requirements of the end user. With data demands at an all-time high, the industry is constantly scrambling for ways to solve the ultimate problem brought on by the critical influx of data.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

IEEE P3335™, Standard for Architecture and Interfaces for Time Card

IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society/ TC9 - Sensor Technology Standards Committee & Time Card Working Group Meeting

[ Image ]

WHY GET INVOLVED

We would like to invite you to attend the kick-off meeting for the IEEE P3335 standard which is about defining the generic architecture and interfaces for the time card.

Time Card is a source of time-of-day to heterogeneous systems that distribute and/or use that time. The Time Card provides a traceable time-of-day for systems directly attached to it, as well as networked distributed systems. Such systems include, but are not limited to, servers hosting the Time Card, and servers synchronized with the Time Card using such protocols as Precision Time Protocol (PTP) or Network Time Protocol (NTP) and other related protocols.

This standard also defines the basic building blocks of the Time Card and their interfaces in order to allow modularization. The main building blocks include time sources, local oscillators, system interfaces, and time processors. Such a standard will improve interoperability between Time Cards made by different vendors while it allows vendors to add their specific features to have their unique offering.

We appreciate everyone’s patience as we implemented the new voting process for Project Leads. Many thanks to all the nominees  and also to those who are passing the baton to the new leads.

We have a limited number of positions but we are constantly adding new work streams and sub-projects. For those who did not make it in this round, we highly encourage you to get involved and lead one of these alternatives.
